Yup. Very odd looking creature the turkey vulture, isn’t it?
I do like looking at them in flight. But their faces are quite a shock, up closer – closer than this.
They surf on the wind, just letting the currents take them away. It looks like they’re enjoying themselves so much. And its been quite windy around here lately.
Before today, I can’t say I ever noticed one in a tree. But Blue saw three of them up there and I snapped a couple of images to verify what they were. It was a bit of a shock ck to see the turkey vulture up close. The black vulture is a bit less alarming – mostly, I think because he doesn’t look like a peeled head.
In fact, I like them both. I know they are useful, so I like them for that. On occasion, I’ll get a whiff of something organic in decay, and I a grateful that the vultures are around to clean up. I’ve never seen one of the many different animals that live around here dead, but as they must die, I expect the vultures just get there before I have to endure the smell.
